My head was spinning from seeing Frank and Sam. Adding to my discomfort and embarrassment was having to tell Ethan about Frankâs plan. To Frank I was nothing more than a whore he could trade for political gain. And Sam, desperate for Frankâs approval, went along with anything his father said.
âWhat did they say when you told them you wouldnât agree to marry Greg?â
âThe same thing he said in the restaurant. It was my obligation to my family.â
âWhat did he say when you left?â
âNothing. I just packed my stuff and drove off. I had no reason to say goodbye. Iâd already given him an answer and I didnât owe him any further explanation. I only took what belonged to me and my mom and walked out the door.â
âThe bed,â he mumbled.
Shit on a shingle he was putting it together. I supposed it didnât make a difference at this point, Iâd already been completely humiliated, but it still stung having him know how destitute Iâd been. Not that I was that much better off now, but I did own a bed, nightstand, and dresser. Furniture Iâd purchased with money Iâd earned. I was able to pay my rent and still save money. I wasnât swimming in it, however, my prints were selling and my design business was growing. I was proud of what Iâd accomplished.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â Hurt shone on his face and I didnât know how to explain it had nothing to do with me not trusting him and everything to do with me not wanting to admit I was worthless. According to Frank and Sam my only value as a person was an indentured sex slave for Greg. That was what they thought of me. Frank thought I owed him a debt and he was going to collect.
âBecause I never wanted to think about it again. I didnât think it was a big deal.â
âA big deal? Did you really think Frank was going to let it go?â
âYes. I figured heâd move on.â
âClearly you were wrong. You understand that now, right?â
âClearly. Iâm not stupid, Ethan. I know a threat when I hear one. Thatâs why I think I need to move. Leave Georgia all together. I thought Iâd moved far enough away Iâd never see him again. I was wrong.â
I donât know why Iâd said I should move. It wasnât something Iâd planned on saying. It just spewed out before I could think about the ramifications of my words.
âMove? Are you fucking serious?â Ethan was pissed, really pissed.
âI donât want my problems touching you or Carson. Heâs right, his reach is long. He could cause a lot of problems for you at the station. We have to think about Carson.â
âIâm not worried about my job, Honor. Fuck my job. Iâm worried about you.â
âHe canât do anything to me. I donât have anything to lose. What do you think heâll do? Kidnap me and hold me hostage until I agree to marry Greg? Heâs not that crazy.â
âHeâs not? He had a goddamn contract drawn up outlining when you were to fuck Greg.
